Utah County Demos try a new tack: YouTube |
Deseret Morning News, October 16, 2007 Tad Walch PROVO — A Republican and a Democrat go into a Utah County Internet cafe. They ask the barista for bagels, pop open their laptops and access the shop's wireless Internet service. The Republican logs onto the Utah County GOP Web site, but she can't make an online contribution, can't find any video and discovers some links are dead.\ Meanwhile, the Democrat pulls up her party's relaunched Web site and clicks on a link that sends her to a videotaped welcome message on YouTube. She also can make a secure online donation. The difference? The Republican Party dominates Utah County without snazzy Web graphics, while the new leadership team guiding the county Democrats is willing to try new things to chip away at that dominance. |

Daily Herald, September 20, 2007 Caleb Warnock Utah Valley's air is so dirty that it is not adequate for raising children. That was among the opinions offered to about 30 people gathered at the Provo City Library on Wednesday to hear the founders of Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment and Utah Moms for Clean Air speak about the need to clean Utah County's air. The event was hosted by the Utah Valley Sierra Forum. All speakers asked those gathered to get involved by demanding that the Legislature put a moratorium on coal-fired power plants in Utah. |

Democrats bring political balance |
Daily Herald, July 7, 2007 Claralyn M. Hill Recently, something happened that reminded me of my parents. My father, a Salt Lake businessman who was a devout Mormon, was a Democrat. My mother, also a devout Mormon and daughter of a bishop, was also a Democrat. They were people of integrity. I remember my father voting in favor of pro-tenant legislation that would remove rights he had as a landlord, simply because he believed it was the right thing to do. I remember my mother fussing over the fact that taxpayers were partially funding the oxygen she used when her cancer took her breath away. She did not think this was fiscally responsible when she had the means to pay for it herself.

Stadium of Fire should unite Americans |
Deseret Morning News, July 3, 2007 Richard Davis and Larry Brown In a recent Deseret Morning News article about Glenn Beck emceeing the Stadium of Fire, two Freedom Festival organizers made statements that concerned us and probably many other Utahns. One was by Freedom Festival director Paul Warner, who said Beck, a conservative talk-show host, best represents America's traditional values of family, freedom, God and country. He said, "We know Glenn Beck is conservative, but we think those traditions are conservative."

Patriotism is not solely the province of American conservatives |

Salt Lake Tribune, 07/03/2007 Cal Thomas WASHINGTON, Ind. - It's a long way from Washington, D.C., to Washington, Ind., where my father was born a century ago next January and where I am attending a Thomas family reunion. On the drive from Indianapolis, one passes towns that could fill a Norman Rockwell album. My favorite is named Freedom because, though the town has only a single flashing caution light, it displays many flags. If I don't slow down, I will miss both. Driving past miles of cornfields, listening to local radio stations that still play music, not syndicated political talk, and carry commercials for farm equipment and feed, I ponder what it means to be patriotic and to love America. |
