James “Jim” Greer and his wife have been residents of House District 59 in Orem for twenty years. Their four daughters attended public schools here in Orem, including Mountain View High School where his wife, Dr. Mary Ruth Jaeger Greer currently teaches AP Statistics, Biology, and Biotechnology.

As the spouse of a public educator, Jim has seen firsthand the challenges of adapting to the fluctuating financial support of the Legislature. He is committed to restoring funding to public education that has been siphoned from the state budget under the guise of tax breaks for big business and the wealthy. Jim will work toward establishing an educational endowment to augment annual state budgets and provide continuous funding to our public schools, regardless of national or local economic fluctuations.

Professionally, Jim develops and manages successful technology projects and programs, and is currently the Utah Sales Director for Stability Networks, a network consulting and management firm. He is also active in promoting the continuing growth of Utah business as a President’s Ambassador for the Salt Lake Chamber. Previously, Jim served as a member of Governor Michael Leavitt’s Coalition for Year 2000 Preparedness, coordinating programs to assist small businesses in implementing new technology to overcome threats and achieve continuing success.

In his community volunteer work, Jim has served as an LDS Bishop, Stake High Councilor, and Seminary Teacher. In local Boy Scout units he has served as a Scoutmaster, Varsity Scout Coach and Chartered Organization Representative. And over the past few years Jim has served as a Precinct Chair and a Committee Chair in the Utah County Democrats organization.

Jim was born in Torrance, California the son of Dr. Cal Greer, a community college music professor, and Virginia Greer, a concert pianist. Jim attended elementary and secondary schools in Los Alamitos, California, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Long Beach, and completed graduate work in Marketing Communications at the University of California, Irvine.

In 1990, Jim and his family moved to Orem – a beautiful place where people of conscience can live and work, raise a family, receive a world-class education, and protect Utah’s legacy of political and social freedom.
