Dear Fellow Utah County Democrats:

I want to applaud Claralyn Hill for writing an op-ed that appeared in the Daily Herald on Saturday. (See Press > In the News.)  Claralyn articulated what many people are feeling about the Republican party and their search for another political home.  This time is a wonderful opportunity for us to help disgruntled Republicans find a new home in the Democratic party or at least to make them feel comfortable voting for our candidates.

Please feel free to write a letter to the editor of the Daily Herald expressing support for Claralyn' s position.

Thanks to all those who distributed flags on July 3rd and 4th.  We handed out 1600 flags to people lined up to watch the parade.  The flags included labels that read "Happy 4th from the Utah County Democrats."  The message/publicity committee gets a special thanks for hatching the idea and implementing it.  It was a great goodwill gesture for the community.  In addition, donors contributed to the cost of the flags in order to defray the expense to the party.

Also, thanks to Kate Mann for arranging the car and Jimmy's Love Bug for donating it.  And I want to express my gratitude to Hinckley for driving the car and Larry and Kristin for being willing to sit with me as we went down the parade route.  That was the first time (in my memory) the county party leadership had been invited to be VIPs in the parade.  It shows the county party has acquired respectability in the community.  We appreciate the Freedom Festival parade organizers for giving us that opportunity. And a note to them from you expressing that same sentiment would be helpful too.

You might be interested to know that the party officers had a brief conversation with Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff before the Freedom Festival parade and he said Republicans are calling next year the year of the Democrats.  And he said they're worried about it.

We also spoke with Chris Cannon.  He said he appreciated the fact that we got people involved in politics, as long as we didn't win elections.  We said we intended to do both.  His wife said she was afraid she would get melanoma after all the Freedom Festival parades she's been in.  So, let's help her only have to march in one more parade.  Help Claudia Cannon avoid getting melanoma!
