Candidate Spotlight Steve Baugh Website: http://www.baugh4utah.com Facebook | Twitter Steven Baugh has been married to his wife Cathy for 43 years. They have eight children and 22 grandchildren, of whom seven are attending public school in Utah County. Steve has committed his entire professional life to service in education and has served in many capacities, including Alpine School District Superintendent, Principal of American Fork High School and Pleasant Grove Junior High, Assistant Principal at Mountain View High School, and as a math teacher at Orem High. His current service in education includes serving as the Director of the Center for the Improvement of Teacher Education and Schooling at Brigham Young University (where he is an associate professor) and as the Executive Director of the BYU-Public School Partnership.
Steve is very involved in public service in a wide range of activities. He served as the Chair of Basic Training and as the Vice President of the Utah National Parks Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Steve also served on Orem City’s Transportation Advisory Commission and was an Inaugural Trustee for Timpanogos Regional Hospital. He is a former LDS Stake President of the Windsor Stake. Steve has received a number of honors for his service in the community, including: * Honored Alumni Award, College of Physical and Math Sciences, Brigham Young University, 2009 * Utah Educators Hall of Fame, 2000 * Utah Superintendent of the Year, 1998 * Honored Alumni Award, David O. McKay School of Education, Brigham Young University, 1998 During those years of service in education, Steve has spent many hours working with state legislators to seek increased support for public education and to help them pass laws that would benefit Utah’s students. This would remain his number one priority serving as a state legislator. In addition, Steve pledges to promote a strong and vibrant economy in Utah by supporting small business and advocating for low and reasonable taxes. Finally, Steve is committed to fighting for ethics reform by banning gifts to legislators, creating a stronger conflict of interest law, and applying a strict ethical code to all those who serve in state government.
