It’s coming up fast! The Utah County Democratic Party will hold its annual convention from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon, Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Orem Junior High School, 765 N 600 W, Orem. Legislative district meetings will start at 9 a.m. and the general session at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome. We strongly encourage attendees to arrive at 8:30 a.m. to register for the convention. Utah State Representative and National Democratic Committee Member Patrice Arent will be the keynote speaker. We will also hear remarks by Congressman Jim Matheson and State Democratic Party Chair Wayne Holland.
New County Party Executive Officers: We will hear from Will Matheson and Robert McMurray who will become the new county chair and vice chair respectively. They are the only candidates who filed for those positions and we will propose they be elected to their two-year terms by acclamation at the convention. House District Officer Elections: The chair, vice chair and secretary-treasurer offices in each of the 13 house legislative districts in Utah County will be open at the convention. Those who would like to run for election to those influential party leadership positions for two-year terms are welcome to do so. Please attend your 9:00 a.m. house district meetings to run for office. You do not need to have filed in advance to run for a district office but may declare your intention at the meeting. Delegates at County Convention: Anyone who is present at the May 7 county convention, is a resident of Utah County, and is a registered Democrat or has submitted a form to register as a Democrat at the convention shall be considered a delegate to vote in the business of the convention and house district meetings. State Convention Delegates: Volunteer forms will be provided at the convention check-in desks to anyone interested in being considered for appointment as an at-large state delegate. If appointed, you would be a voting delegate at the Utah State Democratic Party on July 16. Most state delegate positions were filled at neighborhood caucus meetings in March 2010. However, there are always dozens of unfilled state delegate positions that can be filled by the county party chair and the house district chairs. We hope to see you May 7! |
